The Quill & Ink has stepped into its third year. Through a lot of uncertainty, unwelcome changes, difficulties that seemed unsurmountable at the time, we have survived. Perhaps it is time to take stock of our achievements over the past two years. To start with, let us take a look at the readership. From a humble thirty page views, today we register over a thousand hits per month - which, by the web standards, is no mean feat for a not-for-profit website. Of course, it is to you, our readers, that we owe our success. Thank you, and keep the mails pouring in. Nothing excites us more than having our mailbox full of your queries and comments. On the literary front, we are making slow but steady progress. As the number of readers have been growing, so has the quality of the featured matter been improving. While once we were forced to select one out of every two submissions to keep the zine running, we can now afford to look at four submissions against every one published. Also, we no longer need to solicit authors directly barring exceptional cases - the Quill & Ink is now a name that draws submissions by itself. So what next? We have big plans, starting with a paper edition of the zine starting sometime around next year. All the material featured on the website would simultaneously be published offline under the banner of the "Dark Horse Press". We also intend to come out with an anthology of the poems and stories published by us in the past by next March. We invite you to suggest a name for the anthology. So far as the website goes, we shall start a new section from the next issue titled - "Literary Resources". It will be a comprehensive list of paying markets for short stories and poetry, alongwith a list of popular literary webzines. With this, we hope to provide you with what we understand best - a platform for budding talents in the literary world. And when you believe that you have outgrown us, we want to be there to guide you towards the right direction. As ever, the Quill & Ink remains committed to Art, and by extension, to life. e-mail me here |
